This news announcement is an update to the one posted on March 3. Parishioners from St. Anthony Padua and Holy Family Catholic Churches (Luling) and others will be on pilgrimage to our parish on Saturday, March 22. All St. John parishioners are also invited and encourage to engage in this Jubilee 2025 event and indulgence activities. The pilgrimage activities will begin at 1:00 pm in our church with the Adoration and Benediction of the Holy Eucharist. A brief history of our church parish and tour will follow. The pilgrimage event will conclude at 2:45 pm in the St. John Catholic Center with closing activities.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Rousseve departed this earth on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the age of 84. She was long-time, dedicated, and active member of our St. John Catholic community. She served as a Minister of Hospitality (mass usher) and was an active participate in our food fundraising events -- always willing to do whatever was needed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 am in our parish church, with interment following in our church cemetery. Visitation for family members and friends will be from 8:00 am until mass time in the church, with praying of the rosary at 9:00 am. Mr. Murphy Isom, Jr. departed this earth on Friday, May 7, 2025, at the age of 88 years old. Mr. Isom was a long-time member of our church community who was actively engaged in church activities, including serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 13281 Highway 644, Vacherie LA 70090. Visitation for family and friends will be in church from 8:00 am until mass time. Praying of the rosary will be at 10:00 am. Interment in our parish mausoleum will follow mass. Included with the weekly bulletins for February 23 and March 2 were two information inserts regarding the 2025 Jubilee Year. On February 23, the bulletin insert included an introduction to the Jubilee Year, the Jubilee Prayer, and eight characteristics of a Jubilee year. On March 2, the bulletin insert included brief descriptions of pilgrimage, plenary indulgence, how to obtain a plenary indulgence, and a list of the 12 Archdiocesan designated pilgrimage sites, including our church. Our parish office is closed Monday, March 3 and Tuesday, March 4 for the Mardi Gras holiday. The office will re-open on Wednesday, March 5 at 9:00 am and resume regular office hours.
As a reminder and clarification, please note the following: Catholics in good health ages 18 to 59 are required to fast and to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting consists of eating only one meal, with the possibility of two smaller snacks that do not add up to a single full meal. Also, Catholics age 14 and older are to abstain from meat on all Fridays in Lent.
Parishioners from St. Anthony of Padua and Holy Family (both in Luling) and others will be making a Jubilee pilgrimage to our church on Saturday, March 22, 2025, 1:00 – 2:45 pm. Our church is one of the 12 designated Archdiocesan pilgrimage sites for Jubilee 2025. All parishioners and participants of St. John are invited and encouraged to participate in this pilgrimage and activities leading to a plenary indulgence, so please mark your calendars and join us. Pilgrimage activities will include Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and prayers, brief history and tours of our church and cemetery, and a final gathering in our Catholic Center. Help us spread the word by sharing this news with family members, friends, and neighbors. Congratulations to Baylen Borne for being recognized as our Altar Server of the Year. On February 21, 2025, at St. Rita Catholic Church in New Orleans, 77 altar servers were honored as their parish altar server of the year. Archbishop Aymond presided over the Mass and recognition celebration with several area pastors and parochial vicars. Please join in congratulating Baylen and thanking him for his outstanding service in our church parish. And thank you to Baylen's parents, Brittany and Michael Borne, for their support of both Baylen and Bentley in their service and ministry as altar servers in our church community.

Mrs. Mildred Edwards died February 18, 2025, at the age of 90 years old. A member of our Catholic community, Mildred was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, Court 66 for 23 years and of the Senior Citizens for 45 years. Winnie Chauvin passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the age of 94. Many in our church community will remember Ms. Winnie as a kind, caring, and generous person who served for decades as the secretary of Edgard High School. Congratulations to Hillary Bossier, a long-standing member of our church community, who was one of only two 2024 Legend member inductees into the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hall of Fame. Legend Hall of Fame members represent individuals who have made significant contributions to the SWAC and to college athletics during its first 50 years of existence (1920-1970) and meet other criteria used in rigorous reviews by a selection committee. Many of us know Hillary and his extraordinary achievements in baseball and more broadly his contributions in our local community through teaching and athletics, coaching and mentoring our youth. Deola Kindrick Ellis passed away on January 5, 2025. Many of us knew her well, as she was an active member in our church community, engaged in multiple ministries.
