Reconciliation (and Penance) is one of the two Sacraments of Healing serve to guide and nurture our faithfulness and living, as children of God and members of the Church through faith, love, hope, and charity. The other Sacrament of Healing is Anointing of the Sick.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation includes the processes of preparation - examining one's conscience, confession, and penance. Regular participation in confession and penance restores us when we sin and fall from God’s grace received through baptism. Serious sin (i.e., grave or mortal sin) kills God’s divine life within our soul. Sacramental confession and penance restores this grace of divine life within our soul. As Catholics, we should engage in reconciliation (examination of conscience, confession and penance) at least once a year and more often is better.
At St. John the Baptist - Edgard, individual confessions occur in church on Saturdays, 3:15-3:45 pm and by appointment. Parish penance services are held during the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent. These are announced in the Church Bulletin and Parish Calendar, both available on the News-Events web page.
